STRUCTURE
CD1c is a non-polimorphic type 1 integral glycoprotein with a similar structure to MHC class I molecules. CD1c is composed of a short cytoplasmic tail, a transmembrane domain and an extracellular region that contains 3 α domains.1-2 The α1 and α2 bind to the ligand.2 The α3 domain interacts with β-2 microglobulin, forming a heterodimer. 2 The cytoplasmic tail contains a tyrosine-based motif for adaptors binding. 2

Extracellular
CD1c ligands include isoprenoid glycolipids1, phosphatidylcholines2, glycerophospholipids2, sphingomyelin2, sulfatide3, phosphomycoketide lipids4-5, N-terminally acylated lipopeptides and the TCR. 6-7 It interacts with β-2 microglobulin in cis.8

GENE_NAME : CD1C
CD_NAME : CD1c
CD1c is expressed on thymocytes, monocytes and dendritic cells, including epidermal Langerhans cells, interdigitating and dermal dendritic cells. 1-3 In addition, CD1c is also present in germinal center, mantle zone and splenic marginal zone B cells, but also in a subset of circulating B cells.1,4

GENE_NAME : CD1C
CD_NAME : CD1c
CD1c, as other members of the CD1 family, is involved in the immune response by presenting self and non-self lipids and glycolipid antigens to T cells TCR-αβ and T cells TCR-γδ. For instance, CD1c presents lipids from bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and M. avium. 1
